The "sweetened" bailout plan was passed by the Senate in a 74-25 vote on Wednesday night. A vote on the bailout package on Monday failed in the House after a majority of Republican members voted against the bill. Congressional leaders on Wednesday added "sweeteners" to the financial bailout plan to attract enough House members, particularly Republicans, to pass the plan. The measures -- a mix of tax extensions, an increase in federal deposit insurance and other measures -- include many items that are appealing to Republicans.

Will the new financial bailout plan pass the House? For this prediction to come true, the House must pass the Senate's current bailout plan in a simple majority vote. The bailout plan need not become law.
