Nortel Networks has been struggling for a while. The industry leader Cisco is pulling away. Thus, it is the ripe time for the remainder of the industry to consolidate to effectively compete with Cisco.
For this prediction to be met, 1) there must have been an announcement by the prediction close date; 2) the offer must be for over 50% of the shares in the company; and 3) must be an offer for the entire company and not just a division or business unit.

@Marc, this might need clarification ..
1) Will an announcement suffice?
2) Will a merger where Nortel retains minority stake be considered as "being acquired"?
3) What is divisions of Nortel Networks gets acquired (instead of the entire company)?
David, thanks, I have added your points.
