Recent oil price crisis driving US automakers to deal with decreased demands for gas guzzler brands. Now, Ford, GM and Chrysler are also experiencing an increase chance of default on its obligations and is running low on cash for operational expenses. Timely federal aid may not be possible.
PREDICTION: At least one of the US Big 3 (Ford, GM or Chrysler) automakers will file for bankruptcy protection by end of 2008.

Why haven't all three of the US automakers taken their best front wheel drive motor (GM 3.8 Lt.) and placed them into their full size pickup and sell it as a cargo load vehicle only. Sensor's could be placed on the vehicle to detect pulling a trailer above a certain weight which would void the warrenty. The GM 3.8 motor gets 27 - 30 MPG in their cars and would likely get +24 in the pickups. They would need to beef up the transmission and look at a rear wheel drive system to allow for the 4 x 4 user's but at least they would have a pickup that gets has a high gas MPG rating. Most pickup drivers never haul anything and seldom pull a trailer but they like driving a pickup because they sit higher and are macho. Each US auto maker has a front wheel drive motor that gets pretty good gas mileage and I think they all missed the boat by not using it to their advantage.
