Cisco, the largest maker of networking equipment, announced it's selling $4 billion of debt. New York Times writer Ashlee Vance speculates that Cisco will go on a spending spree in the consumer electronics market.
Vance notes that while usual acquisition suspects like Sun Microsystems,NetApp, and Red Hat come up, he wonders if Cisco is taking a hard look at Skype, eBay's Internet telephone service. Cisco CEO John Chambers has been touting high-end video conferencing technology as a multibillion-dollar business for years. Skype would certainly give Chambers a strong footing in the consumer video conferencing space.
eBay has made no secret that it wants to sell Skype. Rumors have surfaced that eBay is even trying to sell the business to Google.
Prediction: Cisco announces it is acquiring Skype by October 1, 2009.

Grrrr. Beat me to it yet again although it is not exactly the same. My suggestion on Cisco acquisition play.
It is important to note a possible PDA VoiP play here. This will be a large part of the equation. Zuckerberg, may also be sniffing this possibility. Skype action should be followed closely.

In light of today's news, this prediction is pretty much a done deal.
Judged negative. Skype is currently embroiled in a legal mess that really puts a damper on acquisition talk:
